Central Baptist Church Multipurpose Congregation Beth Shalom Master Plan |
Brenham, Texas The challenge of this project: how to deliver architectural impact with a low budget by converting an old car dealership into a contemporary church facility? The design aimed to use the 1950s modern aesthetic combined with the existing material palette on site. The existing structure was wrapped a new skin of metal wall panels with a stone wainscot. The large front window façade was maintained but replaced with a modern and much more efficient glazing system. A new exposed steel structure rests on stone pylons to define an identifiable central entry. A new "steeple" element serves as an distinguishing signage element that reinterprets the typical architectural language of a traditional church. |
