Bryan, Texas Classical architecture is a language. Like most languages, there are certain rules; classicism prescribes certain proportions and relationships between elements. The beauty of a language is not in its parts, however, but in what is described by that language. Our clients were fastidious about adhering to the grammar of classicism when they commissioned us to renovate and expand their home. We were privileged for the opportunity to explore this ancient architectural language. The result is a beautiful home that outwardly embodies our clients' cultural, personal and civic values. Originally a two-story concrete-and-terra-cotta building, we added wings to either side, extended the second floor, and added a garage. The front of the house is a two-story high entry portico with full-height ionic columns. The back of the house is graced with a spectacular pool, terraces and a cabana, designed to complement the main house. The house includes a large front circle drive, porte cochere, and four-car garage. The house also incorporates a rainwater collection system (used to irrigate the landscaping) and geothermal heat pump that boosts the efficiency and reduces the operating costs of the heating and cooling system. |
