Burton, Texas Envisioned as a Texas Hill Country-flavored Tusan hilltop village, the large rambling house is broken into smaller masses with a lot of three-dimensional relief. Located on top of a rock outcropping hilltop surrounded by hundred-year-old live oaks, it was a challenge to design and place the house footprint on the site while maintaining all the natural features. With its abundant, subtly colored Texas limestone, aged clay tile roof, and warm wood finishes, the house blends into its hilltop setting. Considering its grand size and interior volumes, the house has a comfortable and homey feel. The interior reveals an abundance of stone finishes and arched loggias that provide a handsome backdrop to the owner's impeccable interior design sensibility. The rear views out of the house look into various covered porch spaces including a sixty by fifteen foot veranda and a twenty by thirty foot outdoor kitchen/living area. While the front of the house is massive with punch window openings, the rear is much more transparent, connecting it to the outdoors. The pool, terraced below the main floor elevation, is visible from all outdoor spaces and directly adjoins the outdoor living space. Large pieces of petrified wood found on the property is integrated into the outdoor fireplace. |
