Washington County, Texas Two qualities that made this Texas Hill Country style house a success were an exacting client and a beautiful site. Set on a hilltop in near Gay Hill, in Washington County, the site boasted a number of beautiful live oaks. Entry to the house is through a small den adjoining the kitchen, which gives this meticulously well-appointed house an informal character. A shed dormer allows northerly light into the great room. The long, deep porch below — a year-round outdoor gathering place — provides views that extend to Kyle Field and Lake Somerville. The massing of the house was a natural reflection of the owner’s functional requirements. Timeless materials include limestone walls and accents, exposed cedar beams and columns, and standing-seam metal roofs. The award-winning kitchen, especially, was a microcosm of the close collaboration between architect, owner and interior designer. |
